Grown-Ups Have Toys Too

You are never too old to play with your toys, the dynamic just changes a little bit when you grow up. Yes, that is my husband underneath all that dirt. I am seriously considering some kind of shower out in that shop:
I helped him remove the hood and he worked on the side panels, too. Current phase of the project is to strip down all the way to the frame, then sandblast and re-paint. Kenan says it's in better shape than he expected!

Family Fun

We went to visit the fam this weekend in El Campo for a baby shower for Kenan's cousin Lynette and my niece Kinley's dance recital. The boys did some recon at deer camp while the ladies were at the shower:

Aaron in the famous tree at deer camp
Getting some weapons education with Dad
 Lynette opening her gifts
Sisters!

I didn't end up getting any pictures at Kinley's dance recital (which was so fun!) but she did beautifully, she was front and center during all her routines and she was the best one in her group. They even did a Halloween dance to Thriller with actual moves from MJ! Great job, Kinley! We are so proud of you!

Wild Turkeys!

So I saw them from across the street this morning and then again around lunch, but never close enough to take any decent pictures. This afternoon while I was reading on the back porch, I looked up at the gobble and realized they were wandering right through the yard, at the back fence. As you can see from the photos below, they are not shy and let me get as close as I wanted. I got VERY close to get good photographs, but I was a bit wary there for a second - they are pretty big. Check it out:
Three males and a female in the background (she blends in with the landscape)

This is so very typical. The female was immediately ready to head back to the woods, but the males sensed an audience and promptly ruffled their feathers every chance they got. I think they would have stayed if I had stood there longer to watch them.

The female was very vocal and seemed agitated; perhaps they had wandered too far from the nest. It's interesting behavior though to have one female and three males; with most species it's the other way around. Turkeys for feminism!

I reached over the fence for this shot. I was probably within arm's length at this point. Too cool!

Date Night

So we went to D&B's last night and their photo booth does the "see what your kids would look like" feature. We tried it (heated debate as to whether we selected boy or girl, so that's up in the air), check it out for some laughs:

Kenan beat the snot out of me at basketball (no surprise there) but I wiped the floor with him on the auto racing game :)

Happy Easter

After church yesterday Kenan and I loaded Madison up and headed to El Campo for a family dinner and Easter egg hunt. We had a great time - here are the pictures:
 Mom and Dad
 Me and my darling husband
The kiddos looking for eggs - do you know how hard it is to get decent pictures of kids on the run?
Aaron got Mom and Dad's help opening his eggs
That look on his face is classic Kevin, so I had to include it
 Kenton looking for his eggs
Aaron taking a break with his "gun"
Happy Easter!

New Project

So Kenan has always wanted to buy a vintage Ford pickup and restore it himself (for the fun of it - it's a guy thing). He recently found pretty much exactly what he was looking for in Arkansas and went to get it this past weekend. Here it is, a 1952 Ford F1:
Here it is loaded up for the trip home
Here it is in the shop! I got to be the first one to "drive" it (I steered while Kenan towed it into the shop with the tractor)
It will be a long-term project, so it's great fun for Kenan, he gets to decide exactly how he wants to restore it. More to come soon!

More Garden Progress

Our garden is taking off like gangbusters! Kenan keeps it on a drip irrigation system and weeds occasionally (we're lucky to not really be overrun by weeds) and it it looking great!
This part is the herb garden, squash, watermelons and cantaloupes.
Everything is doing really well - check out how big our tomatoes are:
Our trees are also all healthy and thriving, even the one crepe myrtle that we thought was a goner:
I also have a few plants (roses!) out back to take care of. The roses are easy; it's a special variety that's much harder to kill, clearly developed for people like me!
